Reader’s Workshop is a teaching method that fosters a love of books and reading through individualized, small group and whole group instruction. During our reading units we explore both fiction and nonfiction works. Through whole group mini-lessons various reading skills and strategies are introduced and reviewed. During small group instruction students are able to practice reading skills and strategies. Individual conferences provide an opportunity for teacher and student to discuss student reading interests as well as reading skills and strategies at the child’s individual reading level.

Writer’s Workshop
During Writer’s Workshop students have the opportunity to explore the writing process. Our writing units include both narrative and explanatory writing pieces. Similarly to Reader’s Workshop, the children are introduced to writing strategies and skills during a whole group mini-lesson. The children then practice the skills during independent writing time. During this time the teacher conferences with individual students and meets with small groups to meet the writing needs of the students in the class. These experiences allow each kindergarten student to become an author of his or her own stories!
