Classroom Routines
Snack
Our classroom is peanut and tree-nut free.
Most children feel the need for a snack during the day, so you are welcome to send a small, healthy snack (nut-free) to school with your child each day. Please separate the afternoon snack from your child’s lunchbox, so your child is aware of what food to eat for snack. :)
Specials
Students will have a “special” class from 1:40-2:25. Our special schedule is on a rotation; beginning with Day A, and continuing through Day D.
Day A: Gym
Day B: Library
Day C: Music
Day D: Art
Note: In case of an unplanned school cancellation, we will skip the day in the rotation and continue to the next letter in the sequence.
Please keep the schedule handy, so that you can help your child remember when to wear gym shoes or when to return library books. Helpful Hint: When your child comes home with a library book, enjoy the book together. Then have your child return the library book into his/her backpack for easy organization. Feel free to reread the library book, but be sure that the book is always returned to the backpack. Your student will always be prepared for our library special.
After-School Arrangements:
Any change in your child’s dismissal routine needs to be noted in School Dismissal Manager. Since Kindergarten is a busy place, I may be unable to check my email during the day; therefore, please do not send any changes in your child’s dismissal plan to my email. You are welcome to send in a note about dismissal changes as well as completing School Dismissal Manager.
Bus Tags- I will provide a bus tag for your child to wear on his/her backpack.
Birthday Celebrations
Birthdays are very special occasions for children. On your child’s birthday, we will celebrate by reading birthday poems and songs together. You are more than welcome to read a book to the class. :) For children who have a summer birthday, we will have a special summer birthday party at the end of the school year. Due to dietary restrictions, please do not send in any birthday snacks for the class. The school requests that invitations are not sent to school unless the entire class is invited.
Travel Folders and Backpacks:
Please send your child to school with a backpack every day. Your child will come home with a travel folder labeled with his/her name. This folder will be used for notices and other important information. Please be sure to send the folder back to school each day.
Photography
You are welcome to take photos of your child in the classroom. Please be sure that you do not share photos of any other students or teachers on social media. This is in an effort to maintain the privacy and safety of our students and staff.
Reuse and Recycle
We will use a number of household items during center time. If you have any of these items at home, and you would to like these items to "find a new home" , we would be more than happy to accept your donation.
Items our Kindergarteners can reuse and recycle:
Paper towel rolls
Stationery
Envelopes
fabric scraps, ribbons, glitter, sequins
acorns, shells, flat rocks for painting
Safety
Cheshire Public Schools and Highland Elementary School work hard to provide the safest and most secure learning environment for all of our students, staff, and visitors. All visitors/guests must request entrance from our office staff using the door entry system and then proceed directly to the office. We ask that all visitors provide a photo identification and use our LobbyGuard visitor management system when visiting the building. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. As always, please visit our Parent/Guardian Bulletin for an up to date listing of events and other important information.
Our Classroom:
I am looking forward to working with your child this year. The children will be expected to work hard, do their best every day, and be respectful to others. We are going to be very busy! Thank you for your support at home. Be sure to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Mrs. Lopez
